In the spring of 2012, Friends of L'Arche New Jersey's first home will open in Merchantville, NJ. Four adults with disabilities and four assistants will live in the home as a family, placing priority in relationships of mutuality and trust. St. Joe's Alumni are invited to participate in Global Community Day 2012 helping to landscape the front yard and break ground on a community vegetable garden in their backyard. Love is in the air. So what better way to show your love than the “I Love Classic Towns” Photo Contest? Enter the “I Love Classic Towns” photo contest. Prizes worth up to $1,500 plus the opportunity to be part of a traveling exhibition. This year we’re inviting professional and amateur photographers alike to submit photos showcasing everything they love about their favorite Classic Town. Categories include: history, community, parks and recreation, people, main streets, residential, and seasonal. Classic towns of Greater Philadelphia in New Jersey include Merchantville, Moorestown, Bordentown City, Collingswood, Glassboro and Haddon Heights. The contest officially launched online on February 13. The public will be able to pick their favorite photos from each category starting April 15th, and we’ll award prizes worth up to $1,500 later in the year. http://contest.classictowns.org

A quaint Camden County borough of about 3,800, Merchantville is best known for Victorian architecture and, lately, a move to merge with adjacent Cherry Hill. But unlike the notion of Merchantville becoming one with its far larger neighbor, the RayCo Armory sparked no opposition. Until recently. I hadn't noticed RayCo either, until DiSalvo pointed it out on a recent blustery morning. Hot off the presses! On April 1st Mayor Brennan introduced The Borough Brief - a digital newsletter containing updates on Borough of Merchantville happenings. Please subscribe on the front page of the Borough's website. Articles in this first edition include conducting virtual Council meetings, how to track the spread of coronavirus across the state by county on the dashboard at NJ DOH, the re-opening of The Blue Monkey Tavern and some ideas on how you can support our businesses to keep our local economy going during this difficult time. Links are also provided to the coming virtual Council meeting, NJ 2-1-1 and Camden County Covid-19 updates.

Join our community and guests from neighboring L'Arche communities as we share stories of daily life and the practices that make L'Arche unique. It is our hope that our guests will gain a greater understanding of the lived reality of community life by hearing the experiences of core members and assistants who have lived in community for several years. Join us for one of the following dates: Sunday, April 1st, April 15th or May 6th from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. The gathering will be casual and no dress code is required.  Baked goods, light sandwiches, and tea will be served.
