      This office is responsible for enforcement of the property maintenance code and rental housing inspections. If you would like to meet with the Code Enforcement Inspector or the Properties Maintenance Officer/Vacant and Abandoned Properties Officer, please request an appointment, as they often have duties outside of the office.

      The clerk's office is open Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and is your main source of all Borough information including: Code of Ordinances, Council Information, Council Agendas, Council Minutes, Council Resolutions, Municipal Budget, Municipal Ordinances, Voter registration, Marriage License Information (Appointment required),Marriage certificates, Sewer Connection Permit, Street Opening Permit, Animal licenses (renewed in January), Building permits, Dumpster Permits, OPRA Request Form, Use of Borough Property Application, Application for Non-Genealogical certification or certified copy of vital records.

  • Mayor and Council 7

    Merchantville is governed under the Borough form of New Jersey municipal government. The governing body consists of a Mayor and a Borough Council comprising six council members, with all positions elected at-large on a partisan basis as part of the November general election. A Mayor is elected directly by the voters to a four-year term of office.

    The Borough consists of six members elected to serve three-year terms on a staggered basis, with two seats coming up for election each year in a three-year cycle. The Borough form of government used by Merchantville, the most common system used in the state. The mayor can veto ordinances subject to an override by a two-thirds majority vote of the council. The mayor makes committee and liaison assignments for council members, and most appointments are made by the mayor with the advice and consent of the council.
