Historic Preservation Commission
Saturday, 24 February 2007 08:02
One of the best ways to ensure protection of local historic resources is by having a Historic Preservation Ordinance that designates and regulates historic sites or historic districts and establishes design criteria and guidelines for their municipality, and a Historic Preservation Commission that oversees the ordinance. Merchantville adopted an Historic Preservation Ordinance on January 26,1998 so that a commission could be formed.

An Historic Preservation Commission is made up of three classes of members including as laid out in the ordinance: a.) People with knowledge of architectural history, building or construction b.) People with a knowledge of local history c.) Residents of the municipality d.) The mayor usually appoints members to the Historic Preservation Commission.

Merchantville's Commission meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 in Borough Hall.
