Merchantville is lucky in its large number of beautifully maintained homes evoking a lost era of Victorian suburban living in a manor of Andrew Jackson Downing and others. The active Merchantville Historical Society has prepared a lovely walking tour of the Cattell Tract and The Oaks in Merchantville which are registered in both state and National Historic Registers.
Historical Society Objectives:
To identify and preserve historic buildings.
To educate residents to the importance of preserving and restoring homes and business buildings
To search for, accumulate, classify and display historic materials.
The Society regularly recieves news of interesting programs hosted by other Historical Societys or by local history museums. The membership never hears of much of this because by the time a regular meeting comes up and the information can be distributed in the minutes many of these programs have passed. We will start distributing this information via email so members can recieve it in a timely fashion - another good reason to get your minutes by email.
