4th Annual Richard's River Run
On Sunday May 2, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. help us support children with cancer as we Go4theGoal of a cancer free world! Go4theGoal is sponsoring Richard's River Run 5k Run/Walk to celebrate Richard Stefanacci. Richard was diagnosed in May, 2006 at the age of 13 with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer that affects young people. He attended our first race but died in June 2007, just 6 weeks later.

NJ Transit fares to rise on May 1st
The NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors has approved new fares to take effect May 1, 2010. The fare increase is needed to close a budget gap in Fiscal Year 2011 that is approaching $300 million. New River Line fares: Adult One-Way:$1.50, Reduced Fare for children, seniors and customers with disabilities: $0.70. Local bus fares: One-zone fare will change from $1.35 to $1.50 and a monthly bus pass will increase from $45.00 to $50.00.
 
CCHS blood drive honors Richard Stefanacci
Camden Catholic High School is hosting a Blood Drive in memory of Richard Stefanacci on April 30th in the CCHS gym from 3:00-7:30 p.m. Blood is always needed and this is your chance to do it in the name of Richard, who needed a lot of blood during his treatment. This would have been his senior year, so let's make this the best blood drive CCHS has ever hosted! Open to the public. Reserve your time by contacting Noami Merenyi at nmerenyi@camdencatholic.org.
 
Farmer's Market volunteers to meet
There will be a Farmer's Market meeting, Thursday April 15 at 7:30 pm at Foam. Foam is located at 13 North Centre St. We will be discussing weekly manager's schedules, fee schedules, additional vendors, advertising and special events. The weekly Farmer's Market will begin Friday May 21 from 4-8 pm at the Old Bank Building located at 9 South Centre Street.

Kindergarten Round-up!
Kindergarten registration for Merchantville School takes place on Monday, May 3rd from 1:15 - 2:45. (1:15 until 2:00 for last names beginning with A-M and 2:00 until 2:45 for last names beginning with N-Z.). Registrants may pick up a packet in the office in advance. Registering children are welcome and there will be few crafts and activities geared towards them. Information about required documentation.
 
Spring Cleanup 2010
The Merchantville Task Force is sponsoring a Spring Cleanup TODAY, May 1st from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Residents and neighbors are encouraged to meet at the gazebo at Centre & Chestnut with rakes and shovels to help spruce up the boro! There are free hot dogs and drinks afterwards for all who help courtesy of PNC Bank.

PUBLIC NOTICE: YARD WASTE
Yard Waste pick up will take place each Monday and Thursday in May in posted areas. Leaves should be piled curb side and/or bagged. Wood and other yard waste should be separated from leaves, bundled, bagged and/or placed in containers. Separating leaves will save the Borough disposal costs.
 
Victorian tea
It is almost time for "The 10th Annual Victorian Tea Party" at the First Presbyterian Church of Merchantville. The tea party is on April 17th and 18th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The tea party is returning to a true Victorian theme and thus the gymnasium will be decorate in Victorian fashion.

DRPA awards monies for West Maple area
Mayor Frank North received $60,000 in grant monies from The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission yesterday for a joint project with Pennsauken which is expected to rejuvenate the West Maple neighborhood. North said that officials would begin work on the joint project within weeks. DVRPC Executive Director Barry Seymour sited the challenges faced by many of the older cities and boroughs across our region in his remarks.
