Record rise in state lottery spending |
Walk into Cigar Alley @ The News Nook in Merchantville and the aroma of fine tobacco hits you first. But it is the clipped staccato of the store’s New Jersey Lottery machine that is a constant. Customers are just as apt to buy scratch-off tickets as they are cigars. “We’re selling a lot of tickets,” said Rachelle Aljobeh, owner of the shop, who’s quick to declare hers is one of the first original machines in the area. http://on.cpsj.com/Zm9XXv |

Thespian couple finds happy ending here |

Crossing the river into New Jersey was also still a new notion, and so was leaving an urban life. Then two things occurred. The first: Close friends in the acting community discovered what they called a "hidden jewel": Merchantville, cheek by jowl with Cherry Hill but with a decidedly small-town vibe. The second: They unexpectedly found the house that seemed just about perfect for their new family configuration. http://bit.ly/VtTIbK

Just Steaks coming to town |
|
For Pat McConney, 37, it isn’t such a radical change. It’s all about food in the end. His latest idea was to start a cheesesteak shop. In 2004, he and a partner opened the popular Philly Pretzel Factory on Main Street in Moorestown, “a perfect niche” for soft pretzels along the well-traveled main street in the historic town. That same philosophy seems to be driving him again as he serves up "A Philly taste on a Jersey plate". In December, McConney opened Just Steaks in Riverside and plans to open another at the Merchantville Circle by mid-March. http://bit.ly/YHNWPx
