Rutgers University–Camden junior and Merchantville resident, Emily McDermott, is conducting cutting-edge research that could lead to applications for NASA to use in space. A recipient of the NASA NJ Space Grant Consortium, she is working with an assistant professor of chemistry and an assistant professor of biology at Rutgers–Camden conducting research on using plant-based materials to power batteries that astronauts could use in space in the future. McDermott's innovative project aims to find a more eco-friendly way to power batteries instead of using fossil fuels.

Marie Peze (nee Dunleavy), age 99 of Merchantville passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Richard J. Peze; devoted mother of Richard Peze of Peachtree City, GA, Gary Peze (Diane) of Merchantville and Janice Withers (Dominic) of Tabernacle. Marie is survived by eight grandchildren, Siri Lackovic (Paul), Jeffrey Peze (Monica), Jessica Hickenbottom (William), Brett Peze (Jayne), David Peze (Amy), Ritchie Mazzaglia (Joy), Jillian Ormsby (Christopher), Ashley Cardini (Michael); eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by all seven of her siblings and their spouses. Marie was a 29 year resident of Holiday City in Williamstown and a leader in the Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts. She was an active church member and worked as a bookkeeper for various companies ultimately retiring from Dunleavy’s Restaurant in Hainesport. She was an avid traveler and travel organizer. Marjorie Ann (Margie) Stein, 85, peacefully passed away on February 28, 2020. Margie was born in Camden, lived in Pennsauken and graduated from Merchantville High School. She was a teller for Merchantville Bank, First Fidelity Bank, and, in the summers while staying in Strathmere, she worked at the Sea Isle Bank. Margie also worked as a teacher’s aide in the Pennsauken school system and retired from the Better Business Bureau in the late 1990s. Margie was an active member of her high school reunion committee for many years and a member of the Merchantville Eastern Star for 60 years. She was also a member and Sunday school teacher at Grace Episcopal Church in Merchantville. On Jan. 16, 2020, Virginia, nee Oldershaw, age 93 years, beloved wife of the late Robert Edgar of Moorestown, NJ. Devoted mother of Jane Homon ( Peter Jr), Leslie Polansky ( John), and Judith Smith, and the late Stephen Smith. Loving grandmother of five grandchildren, and great grandmother of ten great grandchildren. Mrs. Edgar was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Collingswood, NJ. She taught Sunday School, and delivered altar flowers to “shut ins”to brighten their day. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and  was an avid seamstress. Most importantly, she faithfully, and consistently prayed for her family and friends, both for their needs , and blessings as they arose. Susan Virginia Baldwin (nee Froyd), of Marlton, passed away suddenly on March 9, 2020. She was 68 years old. Susan was the beloved wife of Thomas Fay Baldwin for 49 years. Loving mother of Christopher Robert Baldwin and Jeffrey Thomas Baldwin (Erin). Cherished grandmother of Abigail Gray and Eleanor Fay Baldwin. Dear sister of Michael Froyd and aunt of his children, Jesse and Rebecca Froyd. Sue, Tom and their boys resided in Merchantville for many years. Imagine living 100 years on this earth - for one local man, its a reality. Edgar Munro, who was born on February 8, 1920 in Merchantville, N.J., celebrated his 100th birthday. His family lived in New Jersey where his dad worked in the shipyards until they moved to Loch Haven where he owned the Munro Milk Farm. Edgar remembers helping his dad by delivering milk as a boy. He had seven siblings, one of which is still alive. His brother Alfred B. Munro still resides in Jersey Shore where another Munro family farm is located. Through the years Edgar and his wife Dorothy raised six children and took over the farm. At 100, he's never lost his love of farm tractors and the Antique Machinery Association Show.

Cheryl A. Disch, age 57, of Merchantville NJ passed away suddenly at home on January 19, 2020. She was a Senior Manager-Marketing Information Systems with Duane Morris, LLP in Philadelphia, PA. Cheryl was also a graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in Communications. She was past co-chair of ILTA, an avid Buffalo Bills fan, Disney devotee and dog lover. She is survived by her parents Robert and Marge (nee Zuk) Disch, one sister Karen Disch and many loving cousins, aunts and uncles. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday from 2:00 PM-4:00 p.m. and 7:00 PM-9:00 p.m. in the Alloway Funeral Home, 315 E. Maple Avenue Merchantville, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
