Next weekend, after more than a decade of preparation, alumni of Merchantville High, from the year the school opened in 1929 until it closed in 1972, will be meeting for a reunion. Close to a 1,000 alumni, family and friends are expected to attend, some from as far away as California. "We've got mothers and fathers and daughters and brothers who have gone to Merchantville and are coming," said Russ T. Mother Nature may have thrown festival-goers a curve ball during Sea Isle City’s 2011 Fall Family Festival Weekend, however a bit of inclement weather was not enough to dampen the spirits of the tens-of-thousands of people who attended the two-day event on Sat. and Sun., Sept. 17 and 18. The top winner of the festival’s Sand Sculpting Contest was a traditional sand castle built by brothers Ted and Andrew Kirkpatrick of Media, PA, and Sea Isle City. Philip Mastella, 28, of Edinshire Road pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Michele Fox to leaving the scene of an accident that led to bodily injury or death. The Catholic at our breakfast table, my wife Anne Button, favored Moe's. She was born in the New Jersey town of Merchantville, an easy drive to a nice Jewish deli in Cherry Hills, where Anne picked up her own bagel credentials. Her parents, both loyal Catholics, found the New York-style deli in Cherry Hills in the 1970s, and they wouldn't let their kids eat a bagel from anywhere else. http://huff.to/qLFh7A |
