Christie calls law student veteran an 'idiot' |
Gov. Christie told William Brown, 34, a former Navy SEAL and second-year Rutgers-Camden law student on Thursday that his school will definitely merge with Rowan University, sparking a yelling match that led the governor to dismiss him as an “idiot.” Brown, a former candidate for state Assembly who served in Iraq in 2004 and 2005, was removed from the firehouse by Florence police officers. Brown worries that veterans and other non-traditional students won’t get the same kind of educational opportunities once the merger goes through. http://bit.ly/zqMTqk |

Online sales-tax bill is introduced |
A sales-tax exemption measure designed to encourage major online retailers to locate in New Jersey has been introduced in the Legislature. The bill would help alleviate disparities between online retailers, who are not required to collect New Jersey's 7 percent sales tax unless they have a physical presence in the state, and bricks-and-mortar stores, according to Democrats. Amazon.com, the world's biggest online retailer, is in talks to bring two warehouses to New Jersey in exchange for a delay in charging its Garden State customers sales tax. The deal could bring 1,500 full-time jobs to a state where unemployment has hovered around 9 percent. The legislation specifies that the jobs must go to New Jersey residents. http://bit.ly/zgrgGE |

Bishops decry Obama birth control plan, yet Catholic hospitals report sterilizations |
U.S. Catholic bishops have vowed to fight the Obama administration's compromise on insurance coverage for contraception and sterilization, yet there is evidence the sterilization services the bishops oppose have been provided by many Catholic hospitals across the country. Between 2007 and 2009, more than 20,000 women who gave birth at Catholic hospitals in New Jersey and six other states had their "tubes tied." Eighty-five hospitals, almost half of those providing obstetric services, were doing sterilizations to end fertility. http://bit.ly/zNzoSA |
