| Group presses to "reunite" Merchantville and Cherry Hill |
| According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, members of a group in town led by Bob Stocker and Greg LaVardera want to create a new township by "reuniting" the communities of Merchantville and Cherry Hill using a 2007 municipal-consolidation law that gives residents the same power as elected officials to pursue a merger. This group, "Merchantville Connecting for the Future", said they would hold hearings this month and next in both municipalities whether or not borough officials are involved. Then they plan to apply for funds from the local finance board of the Department of Community Affairs for a study. They are being guided by Gina Genovese, founder and executive director of "Courage to Connect New Jersey, a nonprofit that favors the merging of towns. |
