konyKONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice. Invisible children is a movement seeking to end the conflict in Uganda and stop the abduction of children for use as child soldiers. American filmmakers who reported on wartime atrocities in Africa for a 50-minute work called "Invisible Children" drew more attention than they imagined when their project was released in 2005. They soon founded a nonprofit organization to campaign against the brutality.

There she blows! Stunning images of Mount Etna eruption

etnaBurning hot lava spews down the side of Mount Etna in these dramatic pictures captured earlier today. A huge column of hot ash can be seen billowing over the southern Italian island of Sicily after Europe’s biggest volcano erupted last night. The ANSA news agency reported that flames were sent hundreds of metres into the air and could be seen from the nearby towns of Catania and Taormina. Ancient Mayan Tomb's Secrets Revealed

MayanTombMexican archaeologists used a tiny, state-of-the-art camera to unveil the long-kept secrets of a Mayan tomb thought to be 1,500 years old. As the BBC is reporting, scientists from Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History were able to capture images of the stunning burial chamber in Palenque by lowering the microscopic device 16 feet down into the tomb. http://huff.to/kaB0GS

 
Peru set to surpass Colombia as world's top coca producer

cocaA UN report released Thursday says that Peru is just shy of overtaking Colombia as the world's top coca producer. In 2010, 151,200 acres (61,200 hectares) of land in Peru were used to cultivate coca, claims the report. That's a 2 percent rise from the previous year. Colombia had 153,205 acres (62,000 hectares) under cultivation in the same year, a 15 percent drop from the previous year. http://bit.ly/jnVhX1
