The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning people to avoid eating certain pre-cut cantaloupes due a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened 117 people in 34 states including New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Laboratory data show that cantaloupes and some cut fruits are contaminated with Salmonella and making people sick. Since the last update on November 24, 18 more illnesses have been reported. brand whole cantaloupes have been recalled, and the CDC has added many pre-cut cantaloupes to the recall, including those from Kwik Trip, Bix Produce, Kroger, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Trader Joe's stores.
