As the federal government shutdown continues and a halt and/or reduction to payments to SNAP recipients looms, many people will be scrambling to find food to get through November and perhaps longer. This interruption will affect roughly 14% of Camden County’s population, as well as our residents and neighbors, marking the first break in SNAP service in over six decades. As part of Camden County, Merchantville is partnering with the Food Bank of South
Jersey to help bridge the SNAP gap and provide vital food resources to our neighbors in need. “Food Insecurity is an issue that the Board of Commissioners is determined to beat because no one, in any community, should ever have to worry about where their next meal is coming from,” said Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, liaison to the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services. “Food insecurity can impact anyone at any time as millions of Americans are just a missed paycheck away from going hungry. By joining together and sharing ideas, we can make a difference and find real solutions to food insecurity here in Camden County and across the state.”
