Donald Graff, 87

Donald L. Graff of Haddon Heights, formerly of Merchantville, passed away on May 9, 2020, at the age of 87. Beloved father of Lisa M. Cornely (Frank), Andrea D. Racobaldo (Dominic) and Mark L. Graff (Katie). Loving grandfather of Frank, William, Maureen, Matthew, Thomas and Alaina Cornely; Laura, Dominic, Andrew, Cara and Abbie Racobaldo; Mark, Maura and Emma Graff. Devoted great grandfather of Caroline Cornely. Don's family moved to Merchantville when he was a child.  He attended Merchantville Elementary School and then graduated from Merchantville High School.  He enjoyed music and was an accomplished clarinet player.  He also played football at Merchantville High School. Former Chief Passes

The Merchantville Police Department, Mayor Brennan and Borough Council are sad to share the passing of Retired Chief Robert Ward. Chief Ward passed away on May 20th after a battling an illness. Robert "Bob" Ward was the chief of police for thirty-three years, from  – Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the entire Ward family, friends and co-workers. On June 1st at 11:00 a.m. there was a short procession past Chief Ward's residence so that members of the police department, fire department and, past and present Borough officials were able to pay their respects to his family. Collette Formanek, 91

Beloved wife of 53 years to the late Leonard F. Formanek. Born in 1929 in Philadelphia to the late Collette A. (Rowan) and William S. Gannon and raised during the Great Depression in the Cramer Hill section of Camden. Colette worked as a long-distance operator for Bell Telephone in the Bourse Building in Philadelphia. After her marriage in 1950, Colette raised her nine children over the span of four decades in Paulsboro, East Camden and Merchantville. She is survived by her nine children, Colette (David) New of Tabernacle; Barbara (Charles Stevenson) Formanek of Williamsburg, VA; Judith (Theodore) Pettek of Toms River; Leonard (Sharon) of Charlotte, NC; Eileen (Charles) Gorman of Camden; Joseph (Cynthia) Formanek of Coopersburg, PA; Maria (Thomas) Murt of Hatboro, PA; Lisa (Patrick) Roche of Doylestown, PA; Michele (Stephen) Pedrani of Neshanic Station, and a legacy of 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Full obituary.

Mary Gaskill, 73

Mary F. Gaskill-Santana of Cherry Hill passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020. She was 73. Born in Pittsburgh, she was a graduate of Rutgers University and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Merchantville, where she served as an Elder. Mary had also worked as a Training Specialist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and was a make-up artist for Estee Lauder. Wife of the late Lawrence Santana, she is survived by her brother, William Gaskill (Jean); a sister, Patricia Eckersley (Jack); two step-children, David Santana (Taiza) and Patricia Grasso (Robert). Patricia Evans, 75

Patricia M. Evans (nee Hickey), age 75 of Merchantville passed away peacefully at Virtua-Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, New Jersey on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Born May 1, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA to James V. Hickey and Catherine C. Hickey. She worked at JC Penny in Cherry Hill Mall where she retired after over 30 years, then worked at McFarlan’s Market in Merchantville for 7 years. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert W. Anna Lundquist, 94

Anna Francis Lundquist, 94, of East Burke, VT and formerly of Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020, after a period of declining health at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. Fran, as her family called her, was born on May 13, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pa. to Harold M. and Anna M. (Potreau) Purnell. She was raised and educated in Merchantville, N.J. Following WWII, from 1949 to 1953, Fran served in the U.S. Navy as part of WAVE, servicewomen who took over land postings to free up men for sea duty. She worked for several places but spent a number of years with Blue Cross Blue Shield as an auditor. Dolores Foulke, 89

Dolores Thelma Foulke (nee Gosa), age 89 of Merchantville passed peacefully at home on Monday, May 11, 2020. Born September 8, 1932 in Camden to Thelma Gosa (Holmes) and Thomas Gosa, she was a graduate of Camden Catholic High School and worked at Camden Bank & Trust and the Cherry Hill Library for over 30 years. She is survived by her beloved spouse, Lewis H. Foulke Sr.; three children, Lewis H. Foulke Jr. (Sharon), Thomas W. Foulke, Kerry Foulke Smith (Marty); five grandchildren, Tyler and Hunter Foulke, Thomas, Patrick and Marley Smith; and, a sister, Mary Alice Casey. Full obituary.

Theodore Landskroener, 96

Theodore William Landskroener, a former Navy pilot who owned and operated a successful window and door business in Queen Anne's County for more than 40 years, died May 2, 2020. He was 96. Born in Bethlehem, PA, Ted's family moved to Merchantville, NJ, when the boys were young, and his dad opened the Delmarva Sash & Door Company (DSD) in Barclay in 1942. Predeceased by his two brothers and his wife, Kathy, Ted is survived by his daughter Nancy; sons and daughters-in-law Chris and Marcia, Jim and Diane, David and Sue, and John; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company. Full obituary.

Eurdine Russo, 85

Eurdine B. Russo (nee Ballance) age 85 years, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Ernest. Devoted mother of Ernest Russo (Donna Matthias) and the late Eurdine Robinson. Loving grandmother of Jessica Russo, Jennifer Bradshaw, Eurdine Robinson and Joseph Robinson. For many years, Eurdine worked with her husband at their produce store, Russo's Market in Pennsauken and she was a cook for their family catering business and was active in the Cub Scouts as a den mother for Troop 119 in Merchantville and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the choir. Ernest Wellford, 91

Ernest Penn Wellford of Richmond, VA died Tuesday, April 14, 2020, following a brief illness and hospitalization. He is survived by his spouse of 67 years, Rebecca Pilcher Wellford of Richmond; daughters Kathryn Wellford Stewart of Merchantville, N.J., Nancy Wellford Markon (John) of Midlothian, Rebecca Pilcher Wellford of Doswell, and Laura Simmons Chicklo (Jay) of Midlothian; and grandchildren Michael Ernest Turner of Glen Allen, Elizabeth Markon Oakland (Milo) of Charlottesville, and Tyler James Chicklo of Midlothian. Private burial in Westhampton Memorial Park, 2 p.m., May 13. Fr. Alfred Hewett, 95

Father Alfred J. Hewett, a priest of the Diocese of Camden for more than 60 years, died April 18 at the age of 95. Father Hewett graduated from Collingswood High School, served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps and the U.S. Army Air Corps then, attended Saint Joseph’s University. His first assignment was in Merchantville, as parochial vicar at Saint Peter Parish from 1956-63. Due to current restrictions, interment at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill will be held privately for his family.  A memorial Mass will be held when the current restrictions are lifted.  Donations may be made to Madonna House or Catholic Relief Services.
