Sister Anna Maiorano, MPF, who taught at St. Peter, Merchantville and St. Joseph, Hammonton schools and received the Bishop’s Medal for her service in the Camden Diocese, died Oct. 17 at St. Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown, at the age of 97, after a brief illness. Born in Camden, Sister Anna entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1932.

She received the habit in 1933, and made her religious profession in 1936.

At St. Joseph School, she taught second grade from 1935-37. At St. Peter School, she taught fifth grade from 1968-71; sixth grade from 1975-80; and served as librarian from 1988-94. After retiring in 1994, she resided at St. Peter Convent in Merchantville from 1994-2001, and again from 2004-05, until her arrival at the Villa Walsh Motherhouse. Sister Anna also taught at other schools in New Jersey, and in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

She received the Bishop’s Medal in the Camden Diocese, for meritorious service, given to men and women throughout the diocese who exemplify excellence in helping to build and support the church in South Jersey.

Sister Anna is survived by her sisters Jean Federico, Santina Santasiero, Gloria Ferrenti, Ann Bliss, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Vincent and Amelia (Corbo) Maiorano; brothers Biase, Nicholas, John, Emilio, Albert, William; and her sisters Rose Starnes, Eve Tortella, Marie Rulli, Josephine Domenisis and Helen Marino. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 22, in the St. Lucy Chapel at Villa Walsh, Morristown.
