Taxes are due four (4) times a year: February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st. There is a 10 day grace period for payment. If taxes are not paid by the due date interest is charged on the open balance. Taxes can be paid in person at the Borough office during regular business hours or after business hours, payments can be put in the silver lock box in the front of the Borough office. You can also pay your taxes on-line through the Borough website or mailed to: Merchantville Borough Hall, 1 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville, NJ 08109. Office Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Merchantville recently appointed Patrolman John Queen as the Municipal Humane Law Enforcement Officer (MHLEO) for the Borough. These officers require the same training and authorization previously required for animal cruelty investigators and all other provisions of law, rule, and regulation concerning animal cruelty. Only authorized municipal humane law enforcement officers may investigate animal cruelty, sign complaints, and act as officers for detection, apprehension and arrest of offenders against the animal control, animal welfare, and animal cruelty laws of the State and ordinances of a municipality. Mosquito spraying has been postponed until June 28th. The Camden County Mosquito Commission will be conducting ULV spraying operations on Friday, June 28th between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. weather permitting on Plymouth Place, Somerset Avenue, St. James Avenue and Church Road. Mosquitoes are well known throughout the area as a nuisance. Uncontrolled mosquito populations can still ruin outdoor activities and interfere with many elements of business. A less common but even more serious problem with the blood sucking of mosquitoes is the spread of diseases. Multiple water related incidents occurred during from last evening's storm. Water rose to flood levels on Ivins Avenue, Glenwood Avenue, Chestnut Avenue and many Merchantville side streets. Pennsauken Township was involved in a number of water rescues along and around Route 130 and 48th Street. During heavy rain and flash floods. Watch for flooding in your basements. Make sure that home water removal equipment, like your sump pump, is working. The National Weather Service calls for more flash flooding today. and call the Merchantville Police or Fire Department with any emergencies.

In 2018, Spotted Lantern Fly populations were found in New Jersey and a state quarantine encompassing 3 counties has been established by the NJ Department of Agriculture. People and businesses travelling in and out of Mercer, Hunterdon, and Warren counties should inspect their vehicles for hitchhiking SLF as well as inspect outdoor items such as firewood, paving stones, lawn equipment, etc. for egg masses (see checklist). Quarantine compliance will reduce the spread of SLF to new areas and counties thereby protecting New Jersey resources including forests and agriculture. The Public Works department has announced a new schedule for brush and yard-waste pick up. For the East Side (properties from Center Street eastward to Ivins Avenue) pick-up is on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month; West Side (properties from Center Street westward to West End Avenue) pick-up is on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month; and, there is NO pick-up on the 5th Wednesday of the month. Brush consists of: leaves, tree limbs, grass clippings, hay, corn stalks, organic matter; which can be bagged, put in cans or tied in bundles of no more that 40 Lbs. or 4 feet in length. Please have items ready for pick up by 7:00 a.m.

Come join us for some summer fun! The Borough of Merchantville's Parks and Playgrounds Program begins Monday, June 24th and runs through July 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (closed on 7/4 & 7/5) at the Merchantville Community Center, 212 Somerset Avenue. All children 4-10 years of age are invited to participate. Parents can register children at Borough Hall or on the first 2 days at the Community Center. The cost is $175.00 for residents and $200.00 for non residents - $25.00 discount for each additional child. Please note that children must bring their own snack each day. Today is primary election day in New Jersey, as voters across the state pick the Democratic and Republican nominees who’ll run for a number of state, county, and local positions in November. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout New Jersey. New Jersey has open primaries, which means unaffiliated voters can cast ballots. All you need to do is walk into your polling station and request a ballot for either party’s race. Topping the ticket are the nods for all 80 seats in the state Assembly, the lower chamber of the state Legislature, the body in Trenton that writes the Garden State’s laws and passes its budget. There are also numerous county and municipal elections throughout New Jersey, determining who’ll represent the major political parties in freeholder, mayoral, and council races on November’s ballot.

Merchantville's "Market Off Centre" will bring their farmers market to the downtown on the First Fridays of each month from June to October. It kicks off on Friday, June 7th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. and you can track the food and craft vendors, local businesses and community organizations who are joining us opening night on our Facebook page. Residents and neighbors are invited to join Merchantville American Legion Post #68 for the Borough's annual Memorial Day program to remember and honor those men and women who lost their lives in service of their country in the Armed Forces. The Memorial Day ceremony will take place in front of the gazebo in Wellwood Park (Maple and Linden Avenues) on Monday, May 27th at 10:00 a.m. Borough Hall will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Come out and join us a we remember our fallen and observe at the true meaning of this holiday. Light refreshments will be served following our service. The Merchantville Community Center will host this event should we have inclement weather.
