Listen carefully today — Valentine’s Day — and you’ll hear expressions of love and the ring of cash registers. According to the National Retail Federation, the average person celebrating Valentine’s Day will pay $126.03, from buying jewelry to enjoying nice dinner out, up 8.5 percent from $116.21 last year. It’s the highest in the survey’s 10-year history. Total spending is expected to reach $17.6 billion, the retailers association said.
