Each month, the Camden County Communications Center answers more than 50,000 calls, dispatches police for 33 departments, and dispatches fire and emergency medical services to all 37 municipalities. Soon, thanks to a new state-of-the-art Public Safety Radio Communications project, our first responders will have better tools to serve you. Camden County is investing $35 million to upgrade the our radio communications infrastructure.
This will allow the Camden County Department of Public Safety to meet a Federal Communication Commission (FCC) mandate that all of the nation’s radio communications systems operating at 470 MHz or below be converted to a narrowband platform by January 1, 2013. The transition to a 700 MHz radio system will enable our first responders to provide critical emergency services in a more effective, efficient and more importantly, safer manner. In short, public safety entities in Camden County and our surrounding region will be able to communicate with each other easier than ever before. Camden County’s new Public Safety Radio Communications system will not only be compliant with current regulations, it will provide the resident of Camden County with peace of mind for years to come.
