Each month, the Camden County Communications Center answers more than 50,000 calls, dispatches police for 33 departments, and dispatches fire and emergency medical services to all 37 municipalities. Soon, thanks to a new state-of-the-art Public Safety Radio Communications project, our first responders will have better tools to serve you. Camden County is investing $35 million to upgrade the our radio communications infrastructure.

The Camden County Freeholder Board is partnering with Rutgers University School of Social Work, AmeriCorps Healthy Futures initiative and the New Jersey Tree Foundation to plant 11 trees at the Victims of Terrorism Memorial in Cooper River Park on Sept. 11th at 10:00 a.m. Traditionally, this is a day of reflection, emotion and history, but the Freeholder Board will also make it a day of service to our community. The memorial is located on North Park Drive between Route 130 and the Boathouse.

As part of the roadway widening and drainage improvement project on Route 130 from the former Collingswood Circle to North Park Drive, a temporary pedestrian bridge will be installed over the Cooper River. This temporary structure will be in place during the road construction to allow uninterrupted access to Cooper River Park’s 3.7 mile loop that is utilized by walkers, runners and bikers every day. On July 19th the American Cancer Society launched a public awareness campaign on the County’s No Smoking in the Parks policy. Signs are being posted in all our parks to make sure residents understand that Camden County’s parks are smoke-free. The Freeholder Board has banned smoking in all locations within the Camden County Parks System, and is especially concerned about smoking around the parks’ playgrounds, where children can be affected.

The Freeholder Board’s Annual Women’s Health Conference will be held on Sept. 29, at Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees. The conference includes workshops on mind and body, health and fitness and personal safety. The Conference is FREE to residents of Camden County. Camden County College will begin offering high school dropouts throughout the County the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and get a jump start on college through its new Transition to College Program beginning this fall. This new initiative is a commitment from the Freeholder Board and the college to support educational opportunities for kids that want to learn and want to pursue higher education. Camden County will begin roadway improvements this summer on Haddonfield-Berlin Road (Route 561) from Evesham Road to Laurel Oak Road. The $2.5 million project will be completed at night to lessen its impact on motorists and area businesses. The improvements include the resurfacing of the roadway, drainage improvements and streetscape enhancement. The approaches to the intersections at White Horse Road and Evesham Road will also be resurfaced.
