Merchantville's "Market Off Centre" will bring their farmers market to the downtown on the First Fridays of each month from June to October. It kicks off on Friday, June 7th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. and you can track the food and craft vendors, local businesses and community organizations who are joining us opening night on our Facebook page. Enjoy mingling with neighbors and friends as you enjoy with food, vendors, live music and special events like movies and much more. The Pink Angels will deliver rock music from the old post office loading dock and our feature movie - The Goonies - hosted by Merchantville Task Force will be showing at 7:15 p.m. behind Eclipse Brewing. Memorial day service
Residents and neighbors are invited to join Merchantville American Legion Post #68 for the Borough's annual Memorial Day program to remember and honor those men and women who lost their lives in service of their country in the Armed Forces. The Memorial Day ceremony will take place in front of the gazebo in Wellwood Park (Maple and Linden Avenues) on Monday, May 27th at 10:00 a.m. Borough Hall will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Come out and join us a we remember our fallen and observe at the true meaning of this holiday. Light refreshments will be served following our service. The Merchantville Community Center will host this event should we have inclement weather.
2019 Primary Ballot
Primary election day in New Jersey is Tuesday, June 4th. The polls in Merchantville are located at the Community Center, 212 Somerset Avenue. For Merchantville Borough Council, Democratic candidates Dan Sperrazza and Anthony Perno are running unopposed, and there are no Republican candidates. For General Assembly, Democrats Louis Greenwald and Pam Lampitt are facing opposition from Danie Moss-Velasco and E. Julian Jordan, III. The two unopposed Republican candidates are John Papieka and Cynthia Plucinski. The Democratic candidates for Camden County Freeholder, including Merchantville resident Carmen Rodriguez, are unopposed on the ballot. View sample Democratic and Republican ballots.
Road paving scheduled
Please be advised that beginning on or about Monday, May 6th the following Borough roads are scheduled for concrete improvements, and the removal and repair of the existing roadway, a new asphalt surface course will be placed. No vehicles are to be parked in the roadway from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Westminster Avenue (from Maple Avenue to Somerset Street, Poplar Avenue (from Maple Avenue to Myrtle Avenue) and Cedar Avenue (from Centre Street to Penn Street). The work will be completed by Arawak Paving Company, Hammonton, NJ. During the service access to driveways may be curtailed. Resident inconvenience will be minimized as much as possible.
Polling Place Notice
A notification flyer was recently mailed to all Merchantville residents to make them aware that regardless of ongoing construction, the Community Center, at 212 Somerset Avenue, will be the polling place for the 2019 Primary Election on Tuesday, June 4th. However, the poll location inside the building has been temporarily moved from the basement level to the 2nd Floor. The handicap entrance remains at the left side door where residents can ring the bell for entrance assistance. Any questions or concerns should be directed to the Camden County Board of Elections 856-401-VOTE ext. 8683.
A-B-C's of Tree planting
The Merchantville Shade Tree Commission will offer an educational program and some practical tips on how to select and plant a tree this Sunday, May 26th at 10:00 a.m. Anyone who is interested should meet at the gazebo - corner of Centre and West Chestnut Avenues - for this program. Members of the commission, who plant and maintain all Borough curbside trees and public trees in the parks or on municipal property, will teach you how to plant trees, and give you an opportunity to try it out yourself!
Missing Teen found safe
The Merchantville Police are investigating a missing juvenile. Madison Montalvo walked away from her residence on Tuesday, April 16th and has not returned. Madison is 5'01" with brown hair and brown eyes and is a freshman at Haddon Heights High School. If anyone has seen Madison or has any information on her whereabouts, please contact Merchantville Police at 856-662-0500. UPDATE on 4/26/19: Madison has been located and is unharmed. She is no longer listed as missing and has been turned over to her immediate family. The Merchantville Police Department would like to thank all of the outside agencies and residents who assisted with locating Madison.
