From the desk of County Health Officer & Public Health Coordinator Paschal Nwako Ph.D., MPH. The FDA has sent a warning regarding Lead in Cinnamon Sold at Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree, etc. Ground cinnamon sold by US discount retailers is contaminated with high levels of lead and should be discarded. According to this article form the NY Post, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar has taken the products off the shelves. Removing the ground cinnamon products in this alert from the market will prevent them from

contributing elevated amounts of lead to the diets of children. The recommendation is to throw out the products and that Dollar Tree and Family customers can return products to nearby stores for a refund. FDA officials launched what they called a “targeted survey” of cinnamon products sold in discount stores after an October 2023 recall of lead-tainted cinnamon applesauce pouches that sickened nearly 500 US children.
