On May 5th, Borough resident and longtime math teacher, Amy McGinley, was was ushered into her school's auditorium, met by chants of "MVP" and celebrated as the Phillies 2023 All-Star teacher. This honor came thanks to her colleague Dawn Gooden, who wanted to recognize her 35 years in education and do something special ahead of McGinley's retirement in June. “It's beyond anything I could have imagined,” said McGinley, a teacher at Penn Treaty School in Fishtown. “I just love her so much. She's amazing. She definitely deserves this award,” Brown said. “Through the years we've grown and progressed

and I'm very thankful to her. I wouldn't be who I am today without her.” McGinley was also presented with a plaque: 35 years on the field, 6,300 days at bat, and thousands of students over four schools, all in one grand slam career. What fun to have a celebrity from Merchantville who was honored for so many years of service doing such an important job!
