Agenda items for approval at the July 23rd Board of Education meeting included extending the Early Dismissal time for Merchantville School to 12:45 p.m. - previously 12:30 - Early Dismissal Days will run from 8:20 – 12:45 with bag lunches being served to all students in the school. Approval of tuition contracts with Kingsway and YALE schools for students, and the tuition contract with Haddon Heights Board of Education for regular education tuition, special education tuition, and 2017-2018 tuition adjustment in the amount of $2,080,634.00 for the 2019-2020 school year. The BOE July agenda addendum was for hiring approval of Christina Folk as a part-time Mathematics teacher starting September 1, 2019 at BA Step 3. Seeds of Life "The Incredible Race" Summer Camp, at 1st Presbyterian Church, 10 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville, will explore God’s love for the nations as we travel around the world. We’ll uncover fun clues, attempt fascinating challenges, and discover how the events that happened before, during, and after the tower of Babel have impacted the human race today. Camden Catholic offers a wide array of summer experiences for students in grammar and middle school. Each camper is required to complete a medical form, provide immunization records, and receive parent permission in order to participate. Summer Programs fees range from $150-450 and include: Theater, Theatre Tech Camp, High School Theatre Ensemble, Fine Art, Expressive Drawing & Painting, Digital Art, Study Skills, High School Placement Test (2 sessions) and High School Transition.

Both camps will be hosted at Merchantville School from August 5th - 9th and will be lead by our own teachers at Merchantville School. First, our Camp Invention is back for a second year and is open to students entering 1st - 5th grade. Rutgers University has announced a new endowment called Scarlet Promise Grants. This program grew out of the Task Force on Student Aid and the Task Force on Philanthropy as commissioned by the Rutgers’ Board of Trustees. The student aid task force found that a growing number of students are unable to complete their degrees because of limited resources, while others can graduate but leave college saddled with significant debt. As a result, the board is undertaking several initiatives to address these financial challenges and to seek more significant private support for need-based grants and scholarships. Going forward, the board and Rutgers University Foundation will work to raise $3 million for the endowment within 10 years. The trustee gifts, announced at the board’s meeting on June 20, were made by Mary DiMartino DC’85, chair of the board until June 30, 2019, and her husband, Victor DiMartino CC’82; James Dougherty RC’74, GSNB’75, vice chair of the board; and philanthropy task force chair Ken Johnson ENG’66 and his wife, Jackie Johnson.
