John Brouse, commander of Merchantville's American Legion F.W. Grigg Post 68, presented an American flag to Roger Grigg, nephew of the World War I soldier for whom the post is named, in a ceremony at Borough Hall on August 11, 2019. F.W. Grigg was in the U.S. Army artillery and died on October 12, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne offensive. Three generations of the Grigg family attended the gathering, which marked the centennial of the post's founding meeting on August 11, 1919. The family heard of their connection to the Merchantville post after the dedication of a street sign honoring Corp. Grigg in May. Roger Grigg is 87 years old, a resident of Toms River, and a retired teacher and school principal. He is a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict.

Meet Mr. Max. He is the new guy at Sherry’s Place Rescue. Mr. Max is adorable, Yorkie from Merchantville. At a great size - 12 1/2 pounds - he is a very youthful 8 years old. He has had all of his shots and bloodwork, plus a dental, neuter, and microchip, so he will be ready for adoption as soon as he is all recovered from his surgeries. He is doing very well with potty training, as long as he is kept to a schedule. He needs to work on his leash manners, as he is excited to be out, and tends to pull. 3rd Annual PTSD Walk
Wear the Eagle. Bring Old Glory. Support your Veterans. Please walk with Merchantville's American Legion Post 68 to bring awareness to the 22 Veteran a day suicide epidemic. The 3rd Annual PTSD walk will begin directly behind Eclipse Brewery on Merchanville's scenic bike path located at East Park and Gilmore Avenues. The walk is about 2 miles round trip - an easy walking/running pace - and both child and pup (on a leash please) friendly . This walk is FREE and registration for the organization is not required. Freeholder Meeting in Merchantville
Camden County's Board of Chosen Freeholders held their monthly meeting at the Merchantville Community Center last evening. Some proposed resolutions included an agreement between the county and Cooper River Yacht Club for kayak rental, $150,000 for countywide dam repairs, $500,000 for youth gang desistance/divergent grant funds, $32,000 for electronic faxing machines, $54,000 for video camera upgrades, and $966,000 for the purchase of a server system for the Department of Corrections. A Community Award was given to Cindy Hertneck from the Merchantville Garden Club, a sustainability award to Mary Ellen Lane for her work on the Cherry Hill Environmental Board, a proclamation honoring Camden native Theresa Thoulouis, Team USA gold medalist and individual bronze medalist at the WKC World Championship in Dublin, Ireland and National Spelling Bee champion, Shruthika Padhy, from Cherry Hill. Pasta Pop-Up Planned

Progress at Community Center
Alterations and extensive renovations to the Merchantville Community Center and Senior Center are continuing this summer. Bids were received in October, 2018 and the project was awarded to Settembrino Architects, Red Bank, NJ. This project, undertaken by the Borough of Merchantville and the Camden County Improvement Authority, has an anticipated completion date of July, 2019. Anyone who would like to know more about the project, can stop into Borough Hall and look at the plans. The back section of the building and playground area are not accessible during construction.
