New book
Judith Kristen, long-time columnist for All Around Pennsauken and renowned author, is publishing her newest chil- dren’s book, “The Flower Children: A Story of Peace, Love, and All Good Things.”The story, which has a decidedly Beatles theme, focuses on the impor- tance of family and friendship.
Towns look to reduce police administration
Politicians in seven Camden County towns have requested a feasibility study to explore a merger of upper-level police management. Audubon, Collingswood, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Haddon Township, Mount Ephraim and Oaklyn, collectively known as the Colonial Alliance, will investigate potential savings in paying a smaller administrative force to manage police operations. http://on.cpsj.com/12F7YO5

A Catholic school-saving mission
Given a choice years ago to retire and enjoy life, businessman Robert Healey Sr. decided to dig in. He is on a personal crusade to help save Catholic schools in the region. Healey, 84, of Lumberton, a successful lawyer and entrepreneur, has become a champion for Catholic education, turning around struggling schools in New Jersey and Pennsylvania by showing them how to operate more like businesses. http://bit.ly/1a3OIzZ
Animal shelter struggling
Begun in 2007 as a temporary stopgap for the animal services needs of several towns along the Camden and Burlington County border, the Pennsauken-based Almost Home Animal Shelter is in dire financial straits, says Executive Director Nancy Welsh. The shelter needs volunteers for any number of tasks. It's not just walking dogs, playing with cats and cleaning kennels - although those are critically necessary services.
