On Friday, May 13th, Merchantville School celebrated the life of Alijah Floyd-Brown by dedicating a playground in his memory. Alijah, was a third grader at Merchantville School diagnosed with diffused midline glioma - a malignant inoperable brain tumor. Alijah underwent three brain surgeries, completed his radiation and started chemotherapy before losing his battle with cancer. For parents in the Borough of Merchantville, the opportunity to send their kids to Haddon Heights High School was a welcome option after more than 40 years of trying. But since then, some say getting their kids there every morning has become a hardship among missed or late pick-ups. The bus should drop off students in the morning between 7:45 and 7:50 a.m. so students have enough time to get to their homerooms or 1st period and it's reached a breaking point this year amid a national bus driver shortage. The Merchantville School District is responsible to provide student transportation to and from Haddon Heights High School, as well as certain other out-of-district placements.  The district utilizes the Camden County Educational Service Commission (CCESC) who directly contracts with various busing companies that can meet our student transportation needs. Just one glimpse at the spin of her breaking pitches or hearing the whizzing sound of her heater, it’s easy to see why Merchantville resident and Haddon Heights HS freshman, Sophia Bordi, is so successful in the pitching circle. But to know the true meaning of her dominance is to watch a steady line of opposing hitters go to the plate with a plan, only to return to the dugout three strikes later, wondering what went wrong. That scenario played out 307 times this year as Bordi put together one of the best seasons by a freshman in South Jersey history, pitching the Haddon Heights High School team to conference, sectional, state and Tournament of Champions titles this spring. During states the freshman blasted three home runs and struck out 15 batters en route to a shutout during the Haddon Heights High School’s softball team’s 8-0 championship-clincher. An all-around player and teammate!

The Boys Soccer Booster Club has historically supported the 3HS Boys Soccer teams by providing funding for items such as Stockton Tournament fees, T-shirts, equipment, scoreboard, senior photo books, end of season banquet (pay for seniors and staff), middle school pizza party, support for soccer family in need and senior scholarships. The club has also been responsible for organizing pasta parties, fundraisers, senior night and the end of season banquet. The 2021 Season may look a little different, of course, but we are looking to support the teams as much as possible. Any donation will go a long way to help us accomplish that. Thank you to all the families who supported the team!
