Public Works Position

The Borough of Merchantville is seeking a part-time (30 hours a week) public works laborer/operator/driver. Work includes maintaining public streets and general maintenance of the Borough listed on the website. Must possess a NJ driver's license, CDL License preferred or be prepared to obtain within six months of employment and minimum of three (3) years of labor experience. Community Forum on Racism

Mayor Ted Brennan, Councilman Andy McLoone and Chief of Police, Rich Grassia, Jr., posted a statement on the municipal website on Friday, June 5th, expressing their sadness about national events that have unfolded in over the past two weeks and, their commitment to lines of open communication about systemic racism. As a first step, these community leaders, along with other community, educational and religious representatives will host a forum in Wellwood Park on Tuesday, June 16th, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss these issues and learn how we can all do better. Wellwood Park is located between West Maple and Myrtle Avenues just past the Browning Road intersection. The public is requested to bring a chair or blanket, wear a face covering and maintain social distancing.

Poll Workers Needed

Please consider becoming a board worker at this time for the Camden County Board of Elections. Many of the current poll workers - including Merchantville's - fall into the "high risk" category for Covid-19 and will not be working, so additional staffing is needed. Please call the contact below for more information. This opportunity is open to all registered voters in Camden County and training is provided by our knowledgable staff. Board workers are paid $275/day. The Board of Elections, County Clerk and the State Division of Elections work together to provide the citizenry of Camden County smooth and efficient elections. Each election office has certain mandated responsibilities under the law.

Borough Covid Session

Mayor Ted Brennan is pleased to announce that the Borough of Merchantville is coordinating with Camden County to host a COVID-19 Educational Series on Thursday, May 21, 2020 from 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Verizon lot next to the Merchantville Fire Department, 22 East Park Avenue. Members of the Camden County Public Health Education Team and Merchantville community leaders will be there to answer questions and provide information related to COVID-19. If you have questions about quarantine/isolation, contact with a Covid positive person, where to get tested or mental health/addition issues exacerbated by this pandemic, please stop by with your questions. Residents from Merchantville and neighboring communities are welcome. Thank you to Camden County for this opportunity!

Former Chief Passes

The Merchantville Police Department, Mayor Brennan and Borough Council are sad to share the passing of Retired Chief Robert Ward. Chief Ward passed away on May 20th after a battling an illness. Robert "Bob" Ward was the chief of police for thirty-three years, from 1972 – 2005. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the entire Ward family, friends and co-workers. On June 1st at 11:00 a.m. there was a short procession past Chief Ward's residence so that members of the police department, fire department and, past and present Borough officials were able to pay their respects to his family. Rest In Peace Chief.

2020 Memorial Day

The Borough of Merchantville, in concert with F.W. Grigg American Legion Post 68, will be hosting a virtual Memorial Day Ceremony this Memorial Day, May 25th at 10:00 a.m., and we invite you to join us virtually at that time on the Borough’s website, www.merchantvillenj.gov or the official Borough of Merchantville Facebook page where the ceremony will be streamed. Remembering those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice through solemn ceremony on Memorial Day is a tradition in the Borough of Merchantville for many decades. Honoring those who have fallen at our memorials in Wellwood Park is one of the most important events that our Borough holds. Although we are restricted from a public ceremony due to COVID-19, we must not forget to honor those who did give the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
